Unknown gunmen have shot lifeless some cows grazing within the open in Oba city, Idemili-South Local authorities Area of Anambra State.
The herders who had been tendering the cows and a few residents scampered for security upon listening to the gunshots, eyewitnesses mentioned.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen killed the cows in imposing the open grazing ban on herders within the state.
This is even supposing the anti-open grazing invoice has solely handed the primary studying on the state home of meeting on September 22.
On May 11, governors of the 17 southern states resolved to ban open grazing and the motion of cattle by foot so as to curb clashes between farmers and herders within the area.
The determination of the governors was introduced after a gathering in Asaba, the Delta state capital. The governors mentioned the choice was taken as a part of efforts to enhance safety within the area.
“The forum observed that the incursion of armed herders, criminals and bandits in the southern part of the country has created a severe security challenge, such that citizens are not able to live their normal lives, including pursuing various productive activities, leading to threats to food supply and general security. Consequently, the meeting resolved that open grazing of cattle be banned across southern Nigeria,” Rotimi Akeredolu, Ondo State governor and the chairman of the discussion board, had mentioned.
At a follow-up assembly in Lagos, in July, the governors set September 1 because the deadline for the enactment of the legislation.
