Police Arrest Yobe Woman For Killing Three Stepchildren With Poison

A 22-year-old housewife, Khadija Yakubu, has allegedly killed her three stepchildren with poison in Potiskum city, Yobe State. 

The incident occurred at Makara-Huta space of Potiskum within the early hours of Friday when the three deceased drank a poisoned tea allegedly ready by their stepmother.

ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Police Public Relations Officer within the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect had been apprehended. 

“Findings at hand indicated that the children were rushed to a hospital after taking the tea prepared by the said suspect in the early hours of today at about 0900hrs, but three of the victims died while receiving treatments and one remained unconscious.

“Alhaji Haruna, who is the husband to the said suspect of the same area in Potiskum, reported the incident to the police at about 1300hrs”, the PPRO stated.

According to him, the victims have been; Umar Alh Haruna, aged 12; Ahmed Alh Haruna, aged 9; Maryam Alh Haruna, aged 11 in addition to a 7-year-old Zainab Alh Haruna.

ASP Abdulkarim added that investigation had commenced to unravel circumstances surrounding the case for subsequent prosecution.
