Kaduna Police Lock Up 12 Students For Protesting Against School Fees Hike, Kill Two

The Kaduna State Police Command has detained no fewer than 12 college students of the College of Education, Gidan Waya, in Kaduna State, who had been rounded up in the course of the college students’ protest.

SaharaReporters obtained the names of the 12 college students and two others who had been killed by trigger-happy policemen, who violently disrupted the scholars’ protest on June 28.

The college students had protested in opposition to the rise of their faculty charges by the state authorities.

“The names of the students detained by the police since June 28 are: Elon Joseph; Anthony James; Moses Success, Peter Sunday, Felix Nathaniel, Gabriel Jerry Joseph, Enoch Rabo, Bagudu James, Queen Joshua, Pius Prove, Philemon Favour, and Tarmaine Ayis.

“They have been arrested since June 28 and are currently detained at the state Criminal Investigation Department,” a supply mentioned.

“One of the students killed is Emmanuel Nathan, popularly called DJ Skibo. Another was Abas Zakari.”

SaharaReporters had on June 28 reported that college students of the Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, had been on that Monday shot by safety operatives.

The college students had been protesting over hike at school charges, when the safety operatives used drive to disperse them.

“We came out to protest over the increase of school fees when we met security operatives outside. They started shooting us, some of our colleagues are dead now,” a pupil had advised SaharaReporters.

He added that some college students had been additionally arrested and brought away by the police.
