IGP says no plan to reinstate disbanded SARS


The Inspector General of Police (I-G), Mr Usman Baba, has assured that there was no plan to reinstate the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) into the Nigeria Police.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr Frank Mba, disclosed this in a press release, on Thursday, in Abuja.

Mba stated the clarification adopted studies making the rounds each on-line and offline that the IGP had ordered the re-instatement of the disbanded SARS.

“The Force wishes to emphasise that there is no plan whatsoever to bring back the disbanded SARS. SARS is gone for good and will not resurrect under any guise whatsoever,” he stated.

He stated that the Nigeria Police had re-organised the operational construction of the squad to fill the vacuum created by its disbandment, because the management of the Force remained targeted on efforts at deepening reforms throughout the Force.

Mba stated the concept was to bequeath  Nigerians, a Police Force that may be simpler, environment friendly, technology-driven, humane and rule of regulation compliant.

The FPRO urged the general public to ignore the report, saying that it was intentionally supposed to misinform the general public.
