He, nonetheless, stated the authorities had continued to disclaim him and different colleagues the entitlement, forcing a lot of them to reside in overcrowded barracks.

He stated, “This is as regards our lodgings within the Navy. In the harmonised wage construction for armed forces, the Manual of economic administration for the armed forces of Nigeria (MAFA), was signed in 2017 although it was not carried out till lately, the regulation has been there.

“It states that whenever a rating or an officer, whether commissioned or non-commissioned officers, passes out from training school, then 40 per cent of the salaries will be paid to us for lodging every month, if one does not have an accommodation in the barracks, we will be paid 40 per cent of the salary, it is there in the book.

“But if the officer has lodging in the barracks, then the person is not entitled to the 40 per cent of the salary again. Actually, it is not compulsory to stay in the barracks.

“In the Nigerian Army, they are trying as regards the accommodation issue, they don’t have problems. The air force too is trying; once you pass out, from day one, they give you accommodation but the navy has a problem.”

Another sufferer famous that the authorities manipulated it that when non-commissioned officers handed out, it will be after 5 years, after getting the primary rank that the 40 per cent lodging charge could be paid.

He stated, “The navy stipulated that officers within the rank of Ordinary Seaman won’t be given an lodging neither will they get the lodging allowance and the Ordinary Seaman earn as little as N51, 000 as wage per thirty days.

“Meanwhile, it is in the book that everyone should be given. Other forces are paying and trying to get accommodation for their officers; most of them have houses but in the navy, we have the problem of lodging.

“Meanwhile, commissioned Navy officers, as soon as they move out from the coaching college, all these allowances receives a commission to them. There are different allowances we’re entitled to. We have the Armed Forces Harmonised guide.

“But non-commissioned officers don’t receives a commission the lodging cash and don’t get a home but the Navy shall be claiming that they’ve given you a home. In some circumstances, once they submit an officer someplace, about 20 officers can keep in a spot, like an arrival corridor. The guide says all people is entitled to 40 per cent of the wage for lodging.”
