Five navy males have been killed in Ihiala, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, by individuals suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
According to Daily Trust, the navy personnel have been killed within the early hours of Saturday.
Consequently, navy personnel blocked the River Niger Bridgehead, Onitsha, obstructing visitors stream out and in of the state on account of eyewitnesses.
The eyewitness, nevertheless, stated the navy later opened the bridge for visitors to stream at about midday on Saturday.
Meanwhile, newspaper distributors in Awka have decried the stoppage of automobiles conveying newspapers from Lagos to the state on the bridgehead.
Miss Nneka Okoye, a vendor at Aroma junction, Awka stated the state of affairs had disrupted their enterprise for the day.
“We are stunned to face this type of drawback this morning. As you may see, there isn’t a Saturday paper on show right here now.
“The distributors told us that the vehicles carrying newspapers were stopped at Bridgehead, Onitsha because of issues the military had with people at Ihiala,” Okoye stated.
Apart from automobiles carrying newspapers, others have been equally blocked from shifting out and in of Onitsha within the early hours of at the moment.
When contacted, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra State Command, stated that the early morning gridlock on the head bridge resulted from stringent checks by safety operatives there.
According to Ikenga, the measure was meant to trace dangerous components.
