Gunmen on Monday afternoon killed a navy officer after they attacked some troopers in Awo Mmamma within the Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State.
In reprisal, navy males regrouped, stormed the city and allegedly burnt a lodge, automobiles, homes and outlets, PUNCH reviews.
The incident which occurred at Ishieke junction within the space has triggered panic locally.
Many indigenes of the group have fled as troopers took over the group.
“Some of the hoodlums attacked some soldiers at Ishieke junction in Awo Mmamma and killed one of them. They zoomed off towards Ihiala in Anambra State. Later soldiers invaded the area and caused havoc in the area by setting a hotel, cars, houses and stalls on fire,” The PUNCH quoted a supply as saying.
Imo State has been experiencing sequence of assaults currently, particularly on safety formations.
On April 5, armed males invaded the headquarters of the Imo State Police Command and the Nigerian Correctional Service in Owerri, burnt the amenities and freed over 1,800 inmates.
Unfortunately, one particular person suspected to be a fleeing jail inmate was hit by a stray bullet.
Few days after, the nation dwelling of the state governor, Hope Uzodinma in Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state was invaded by gunmen.
